The weather station in Uppsala

Measurements of temperature in Uppsala started as early as 1720 by Professor Erik Burman assisted by the young Anders Celsius. At that time measurements were performed outside the city but as the city has grown the site for measurements has been changed a few times. Today the weather station is located at the lawn outside the meteorological institution quite close to the central parts of Uppsala. The station is most probably affected by the urban heat.! ! During the last years new buildings have been constructed close to the weather station, affecting mainly wind measurements. Because of that, measurements for wind speed and direction are performed at a different site, located about 100 meters away.!
